Antonio Cassese Summer School : Post-Conflict Justice and State Building

Date(s):
1 Juillet 2013 (Jour entier) - 12 Juillet 2013 (Jour entier)
Type d'événement:
École d'été
Description de l'événement:

Countries emerging from armed conflict face important challenges: re-establishing the rule of law, achieving conflict mitigation and prevention, integrating traumatic events, inscribing and negotiating memories, as well as strengthening reconciliation, nation-building and identity. While many of the measures traditionally applied in the context of post-authoritarian regimes constitute today important guidelines, contemporary post-conflict settings seem to require a fine-tuned, targeted and sensitive approach, embracing political, security, transitional justice-related and social factors, likely to support, in the longer run, peace as well as equitable political, economic and social order.

The Antonio Cassese Initiative Summer School invites advanced law and international affairs students as well as junior professionals to participate.

The Faculty is composed by internationally renowned professors and leading experts and practitioners in the field, such as: Pablo de Greiff,  UN Special Rapporteur on the Promotion of Truth, Justice, Reparation and Guarantees of Non-Recurrence; Juan Ernesto Mendez,UN Special Rapporteur on Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment or Punishment; Norman Farrell, Prosecutor of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon; Volker Türk, Director of International Protection, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHRC); Mona Rishmawi, Chief of the Rule of Law, Equality and Non-Discrimination Branch in the OHCHR; Madeleine Rees, Secretary-General of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF);Simona Granata-Menghini, Deputy Secretary of the Venice Commission, Council of Europe;Despina Chatzivassiliou, Head of the Secretariat,Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy, Council of EuropeMark Freeman, Executive Director of the Institute for Integrated Transitions; Mô Bleeker, Special Envoy, Head of the Task Force for Dealing with the Past and Prevention of Atrocities, Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs; Christine Chinkin, Professor of International law, London School of Economics; Keith Krause, Professor, International Relations/Political Science, The Graduate Institute, Geneva, Director of the Centre on Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding, Programme Director of the Small Arms Survey; Theo van Boven, Emeritus Professor of International Law, Maastricht University, the Netherlands; Ruti Teitel, Straus Fellow at New York University Law School's Straus Institute for the Advanced Study of Law and Justice (2012-2013), Ernst C.
