Thamil is a master’s student in the master program Globalization and Law (Specification Human Rights) at the University of Maastricht, The Netherlands. He participated in various IHL-related competitions.

Born and raised in Germany by Sri Lankan Tamil parents, he had to be confronted with Sri Lankan politics and the Tamil freedom struggle, as his father was the famous Tamil freedom fighter, Vannai Ananthan. He was very engaged in German politics and Sri Lankan politics. In Germany, he worked for a MP of the German Labour Party and worked as a student researcher for the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation.

Prior to his studies in Maastricht, he studied law in Bonn and Marburg, Germany. After his studies he worked as a legal advisor for the German Tenants’ Association.
